Do I need a web site?

In today's world, with the proliferation of computers and easy, cheap internet access, more people are turning to the internet for shopping, entertainment, and to gather various types of information.

If you offer services or sell products, it is an effective means of displaying products.  For example, many people shop for cars online to see what's available without having to face a sales person and to avoid travel involved just to find out what each dealer has to offer.  Additionally, we can set up a "shopping cart," which helps to sell your merchandise to customers online.

Web sites are also good for churches and other organizations which may use their site to keep members informed of schedules and events, or provide multimedia presentations to members unable to attend regular or special functions.  The internet quickly becomes an indispensable tool for many who are involved in any of these groups. How do I get a name for my site?

There are a variety of web sites that can help you find an available name for your site.  Many of the more common top level domains, or TLD's have a limited availability as more people get their web site on the net.  (Top level domain examples: .com, .org, .net)  To increase the number of choices available, more top level domains have been added, such as .us, .name, .biz, .info, .ws.  To find a domain name for your site, think of about five unique names that your site could be named, then check with a domain name program to see if it is available.  These programs are called WhoIs programs.  Normally the short names are already taken (such as those sites that use initials instead of full names).  If you choose not to go through the hassle, we can obtain a site name for you for a small fee in addition to the cost of registering the name. What do I need to know to have a site?

You don't need to know any more about computers or programming in order to have a site.  We can handle all the behind-the-scenes work that it takes to make your web site function.  You don't even need an internet connection (but it is recommended). Top  ▲

How will my site be kept up-to-date?

There are many options available for updating your site.  You can have a static site (one that does not need any updating of content) or a site that needs updates weekly (or even daily).  The largest consideration in updating a site as a customer is the amount of time spent in updating, which correlates with the expense of maintaining the site.  Of course, you could maintain the site yourself after one is made for you.  We can assist with any option for site maintenance you desire. How long does it take to put my site on the internet?

Assuming you web pages are already completed, it takes about two days to have your site on the internet.  That is not a guarantee.  At times it may take longer, depending on how long it takes to resolve your domain name (resolving a site is basically adding your site to a database of all available sites, with "directions" to tell your computer how to get there).  In almost any case, your site should be active within a week.

In the case of web design, that could range in time based on what you require.  The time to develop a web page is dramatically shortened if the content to go on the page is already decided upon before development of the page begins. Top  ▲
